40s men's trousers (ongoing)
This is more of an elaborate toile than a final version. I am attempting to draft a pattern for some 40s inspired trousers for Harry - I couldn’t seem to find a commercial pattern with the elements he wanted - high waist, very wide / baggy, pleated front, turn-ups. I’m using the Winifred Aldrich book again.
This is my second go and think I’m nearly there! The turn-ups somehow came out comically large, not sure how I managed that. The fit is pretty good, could maybe do with a fraction more room through seat / thighs. I’m also wondering if they should taper a little more at the ankle to give more of a dramatic shape.
This pair don’t have welt pockets on the back but I did have a go at them for my first pair and they turned out OK - not absolutely perfect but respectable.
The fly is also too short on these, because I just grabbed a zip I already had which was not quite long enough
I used the strongest interfacing I could find for the waistband but Harry thinks it’s still not quite stiff enough. I think what I need to get hold of some petersham to do that. Also it would probably help if I had included belt loops.
But still - I think beautiful 40s trousers are well within reach!
